I carry a #WHITEMANINMYPOCKET. I have often appeared in public with a box on my head and consider myself an artist, socialite and
philanthropist. Others have called me a mischief-maker and shit-starter. I cop to all of these. Mostly though, I am an international southerner, using privilege as plastic material, to get into grown folks business.
A past resident of LMCC’sWorkSpace Program, Skowhegan School of Painting & Sculpture and The Bemis Center for Contemporary Art, I’ve shown at MoCADA, BAM and the 60 Wall Street Gallery of Deutsche Bank. My work has been featured in the New York Times and BombLog, among other publications. I’ve performed at Rush Arts Gallery, MoMA PS1, The Kitchen, and MoMA (NYC). Commemorative Headdress of Her Journey Beyond Heaven was acquired for the permanent collection of the Smithsonian Museum of African American History and Culture in 2014. A contributor to The Huffington Post, I earned my MFA from the School of Art at Yale University.
